Prefix		Subnet Mask
Uses the CIDR notation for IPv4 and IPv6. It counts the number of bits in the prefix and appends that number after a slash (/).		An IP address has two components network & host address. Subnetmask seperates an IP address into the network & host addresses

Internet Protocol (IP) Address		Octets
A set of rules governing the format of data sent over the internet or other network. IPv4, consists of 32 bits which make 4 octets seperated by a period. eg : 192.168.148.145		In computing and network technology, an octet represents any 8-bit quantity. Octets range in mathematical value from 0 - 255. (NOTE: Octets and Bytes can be used interchangeably)
